What you need… A minimum three years’ generalist HR manager-level experience, usually in a retail environment. CIPD is beneficial, but not essential if you have a proven track record. Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, strong decision-making abilities and be able to work under pressure.
How to get into it… HR managers in retail usually come from within the stores or head office functions within the business. It is common to come into the business with qualifications at an advisory level and then gain experience.
What is involved… It is possible to find yourself in a standalone or regional role with total responsibility for the whole HR service.
Prospects are… Good with many opportunities.
