Workers strike over Rolls Royce Canada plans

At least 700 workers are
staging a 24-hour strike at Rolls-Royce factory in Ansty, Coventry today to
protest  at job cuts and the transfer of
work to Canada.

Union members are picketing the
plant as part of a campaign to halt 600 redundancies and the transfer of work
to Canada.

The Manufacturing Science and
Finance Union told Personnel Today that a meeting to discuss compulsory
redundancies will take place next week at Rolls-Royce London headquarters.

“We need to talk to management
about the future of these workers. It’s not as if Roll-Royce is faced with a
financial crisis – order books are full at the moment,” said Peter O’Brien,
MSF’s spokesman.
