Dean Royles to leave NHS Employers

NHS Employers chief executive Dean Royles is to leave his post in September, taking up the post of executive director of human resources and organisational development at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

Royles said: “NHS Employers is a unique organisation and I have been privileged to be part of it for three and a half years. I am proud of the team I have assembled and our contribution to developing a workforce focused on patients. During my time here, I have made it a priority to value partnership working as a central part of everything we do, and I am confident that this approach will continue to be successful in coming years.”

Rob Webster, chief executive of the NHS Confederation, said: “[Dean] has been a class act at NHS Employers – he has inspired, challenged and supported colleagues at all levels – and we are all sad to see him go.”

Commenting on his new appointment in Leeds, Royles said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to be joining one of the largest NHS trusts in the UK at such an exciting time. The trust is already underway with a number of ambitious plans to build a talented, highly engaged and empowered workforce that can deliver the best possible patient care, and I am delighted to be joining them to drive this forward. It is a huge privilege.”

Prior to joining NHS Employers in 2010, Royles worked in a number of senior HR roles, including director of workforce and education at the North West Strategic Health Authority and director of HR capacity for England at the Department of Health.

Since 2009 he has also been the chair of the executive board at the CIPD.
