Macmillan Cancer Support has bought the CourseBooker software to help them administer the learning and development programmes they provide to Macmillan professionals and people affected by cancer.
CourseBooker is the all-in-one software package designed to help organisations manage their training and staff development programmes. The system was developed by UK-based technology company IRIS, a leading provider of software to UK charities, not-for-profit organisations and training providers. Covering training, e-bookings, sales, marketing and invoicing all in one package, CourseBooker helps organisations to manage their training more efficiently, reduce administration costs, take advantage of their sales and marketing opportunities and offer online services to their customers.
Lesley McGuire, Learning Technology Manager at Macmillan Cancer Support, says, “We wanted an online system that was simple and easy to use and CourseBooker was the best we looked at. Managing all of our course bookings in a single database will help us to centralise information and create a more coherent system.

With CourseBooker, we will be able to make our processes more transparent for all our users, giving them greater choice and control. Users of our support services will be able to look for and book e-learning and face-to-face courses via our website, and our Macmillan professionals will have greater access to the resources and professional development opportunities available to them. As a charity, we need to ensure that we are effective in everything we do and that we make the best use of technology. We have chosen to work with IRIS because we believe CourseBooker can help us do this.”
Rebecca Dunn, Business Development Manager at IRIS says, “With the implementation of CourseBooker, Macmillan Cancer Support will be able to manage training administration, track learners’ training histories and evaluate their courses more efficiently. We are proud to be working with a charity like Macmillan.”
OCR invests in CourseBooker software to manage training operations
Suitable for both commercial training providers and in-house training departments, as well as charities, CourseBooker is used by organisations of all shapes and sizes, including Chartered Institute of Professional Development, 2e2, KnowledgePool, Xpertise Training, British Red Cross, Parity Training, Construction Industry Training Board, Lloyds Register Quality Assurance, NHS Education for Scotland and British Safety Council.
Another organisation to sign up to CourseBooker recently is OCR. OCR (Oxford Cambridge and RSA) is a leading UK awarding body, providing a wide range of qualifications to meet the needs of learners of all ages and abilities. OCR qualifications include AS/A Levels, GCSEs, OCR Nationals, Key Skills, Entry Level qualifications, NVQs and vocational qualifications in areas such as IT, business, languages, teaching/training, administration and secretarial skills. Each year more than three million students gain OCR qualifications, which are offered by 13,000 centres including schools, sixth form colleges, FE colleges, training providers, voluntary organisations, local authorities and businesses.
Colin Black, Head of Customer Support Operations at OCR, commented: “OCR is always striving to provide the best service to our customers and we believe that, by investing in the most customer friendly software package – which in our sector we see to be CourseBooker – we will be able to service our customers in the best way possible.”
One of the key drivers for investment was OCR’s desire to provide an online booking facility for its customers – centres, such as schools and colleges. Colin Black said: “We want to make it as easy as possible for our customers to access our courses and other support products. We felt that giving our customers the opportunity to book and make payments online was one way to achieve this. As we started looking at potential suppliers, we realised that, as part of the project, we also had an opportunity to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of our back-end processes so we could further enhance the way we service our customers. We felt that CourseBooker offered an end-to-end solution and could help us improve our back-end processes and improve the management of delegate communications.”
Simon Clayton, Learning Solutions Sales Director at IRIS, commented: “OCR has recognised IRIS as the market leading provider of software solutions to the training and education sector. They can be confident that CourseBooker will deliver real returns by helping them to reduce costs of back-office administration, develop their online services and drive their sales opportunities.”
