OH nurse wins award for construction scheme

One of the OH nurses helping develop an OH service for the construction industry has been awarded the British Occupational Hygiene Society’s (BOHS) Peter Isaac Award.

Michelle Aldous of health and safety specialist Sypol won the award, which recognises outstanding contributions to the reduction of ill health at work, for her management of Constructing Better Health, the OH support pilot.

Aldous assembled, managed and led a small team to pilot OH support to smaller building firms and individuals in Leicestershire, ahead of the development of a wider national scheme. Many are now more aware of the steps they can take to reduce conditions such as hand-arm vibration syndrome, noise-induced hearing loss and dermatitis, said the BOHS.
