Virgin Atlantic masseuse awarded £109,000 in RSI case

An airline masseuse who had to stop working because of a repetitive strain injury (RSI) caused by her job has won her case against Virgin Atlantic.

Elizabeth King, who took the airline to court when she had to give up her £19,000-a -year post at Heathrow airport, was awarded more than £109,000 in damages.

King’s work included giving passengers forceful Japanese shiatsu massages. Dr Richard Hull told the court he believed her RSI was caused by the large number of massages she performed and the abnormal position her clients were in during them.

Winchester County Court ordered the company to pay the sum for loss of earnings, pain and suffering.

A Virgin Atlantic spokeswoman said: “The health and safety of our employees is one of our highest priorities. This settlement allows all parties to draw a line under the case. We wish Elizabeth well in the future.”
