In 2008 the Scottish Government Launched Living and Dying Well: a national action plan for palliative and end of life care in Scotland (SGHD, 2008). The plan’s stated aim was to ensure that palliative and end of life care is available for all patients and families across all care settings.

NES are working with the Scottish Government to support and facilitate the development of education to ensure that healthcare professionals have opportunities to develop the knowledge, skills, competence and confidence to care for individuals and their families living and dying from any advanced, progressive or incurable condition.  The development of the Advance & Anticipatory Care Planning Toolkit and the Principles and Practice of Palliative and End of Life Care workbased learning resource will provide further learning opportunities for healthcare professionals.
