Almost half of all holidaymakers have their break interrupted by calls from work, research has shown.
A survey of 2,000 adults, for Teletext Holidays, found that one in four cannot switch off entirely from their job when they are on vacation.
Two out of five even feel guilty about taking time off – with women feeling more so than men.
Workers often stay late in the week running up to a break to clear their in-tray, especially in London, the poll found.

Teletext Holidays managing director, Nishma Patel, said: “Bosses and workers should look to factor in plenty of hand-over time so that people can be left alone to enjoy their well-deserved break.”
The research suggests workers should leave their work mobile phone at home when they go on holiday and delegate work before leaving the office.
