About the college

Became Brighton University in 1992, having previously been Brighton Polytechnic (it has also merged with and incorporated a number of other colleges in the area).

The university has a long heritage of business education and launched Brighton Business School in 1998 after a reorganisation.

Brighton’s government inspection record is one of the strongest of any UK university with no areas judged as requiring significant improvement and many judged as excellent.

The university has a special emphasis on employment-based learning and has one of the best graduate employment records in the UK. Each course covers a range of personal and professional skills closely based on what partner employers say is demanded.

In recent years, the Business School has received the Partnership Award (from PricewaterhouseCoopers) in recognition of innovative teaching methods and the Sterling Award (from Rover) which established the school as a ‘preferred supplier’.

There is major emphasis on research within the school, which is incorporated into courses.

Star academics

Geoff Ruggerl Stevens, who is currently setting up research into the employability and career development prospects of disabled business graduates.
