HR qualifications

MA strategic HRD CIPD

by Personnel Today 27 Oct 2004
by Personnel Today 27 Oct 2004

How long?
The MA Strategic HRD can be taken over a 12- or 18-month period, which includes four three-day teaching blocks. During each block, participants are given a series of tasks to complete in the intervening period in order to be prepared for the next block.  Participants submit a dissertation either six or 12 months after they complete the taught courses, with the support of a personal dissertation tutor and monthly dissertation review days.

Entry requirements
This programme is designed to provide continuing professional development for senior HRD managers so competence in, and awareness of, the latest developments in HRD practice are the presumed starting point. It is expected that those entering the course are already members of the CIPD by examination, or have considerable experience (at least five years) at senior level that will exempt them from the requirement of CIPD accreditation.

Modules
There are two core units in the course, including Strategic Human Resource Management and Research Methods, but participants also take an elective in HR Development to gain the Masters qualification. A dissertation is also required at the end of the course.

Career opportunities
The aim of this programme is for delegates to develop a strategic understanding of the role of HRD in modern business organisations and its integration with other strategies. Practitioners who complete the course will be able to handle and use data and research methods in their own organisations and will be better able to influence HRM at a higher level.
