The
future of car giant Land Rover has been secured after union leaders agreed a
deal that will safeguard thousands of jobs.
The
car manufacturer’s factory at Solihull,
West Midlands, will continue
production with no job losses, union officials announced yesterday.
The
future of the plant – which employs 8,000 people – had been in jeopardy because
of demands by the company’s owner, Ford, to increase productivity to the same
level as other car factories.
A
‘road map’ was drawn up between plant managers and union officials, with the
deal now accepted by Ford.
