OHN awarded medal for her efforts in Iraq

An OH nurse has been awarded a medal for work in army field hospitals in
Iraq and Kuwait.

Caroline Whittaker, programme leader for the OH diploma at the University of
Warwick, was awarded the Royal Red Cross, First Class, for her role as a
lieutenant colonel in the Territorial Army, commanding a squadron of field
hospital volunteers.

The Royal Red Cross is only awarded to the members of the military nursing
services, and is intended to recognise "exceptional devotion and
competency in the performance of actual nursing duties".

The field hospitals each have a dedicated OH department to look after staff,
as well as helping to treat wounded Iraqi and army personnel.

Whittaker said she felt humbled by the award and that it represented
"all the nurses that were deployed with me to Iraq".
