JCB to recruit up to 200 new jobs

Excavator manufacturer JCB will hire up to 200 new workers to meet an increase in demand.

The Staffordshire-based firm was forced to let go of almost 2,000 jobs during the recession but an “improvement in some markets” has helped, JCB’s chief executive said, according to the BBC.

Overtime for shopfloor employees is also slowly being re-introduced at the company, and employees will benefit from a 3% three-year pay deal – they have not had a pay rise since January 2008.

A spokesman for GMB, which represents JCB workers, welcomed the news. He said: “It is also pleasant to see some of our former employees back working for the company as part of an ongoing recruitment process.”

JCB’s chief executive, Alan Blake, said: “We are pleased to return to the position of being able to offer pay rises to our workforce after a sustained period of uncertainty in world markets and are delighted that GMB members have voted in favour of the JCB pay proposal.”
