Apprentice and commercial course learners from the North West area were awarded on Thursday evening by Horwich based training provider Alliance Learning for their dedication to their learning development.
The Alliance Learning Annual Awards evening was held at De Vere Whites situated in the Reebok Stadium – home of Bolton Wanderers FC. The event, which took place on the 11th March, was hosted by GMTV’s Senior News Correspondent Elaine Willcox with an inspirational after dinner speech by No1 bestselling author, Richard McCann. Over £900 was also raised in the charity raffle with all proceeds going to Bolton Hospice – the highest amount ever raised across all annual awards evenings!
The main award was the coveted Apprentice of the Year prize, this went to an individual who showed exceptional dedication and performance standards over the course of 2009. This year’s prize went to Shaun Rogerson, who also picked up the award for Electrical Engineering apprentice for his outstanding development at Leigh based engineering firm, Travtec Ltd.
Other key award winners on the night included; Paul Twemlow, 19 from Breightmet, Bolton who picked up the Business Administration award for his apprenticeship with award hosts Alliance Learning.
Natalie Vaughan, 22, from Hindley Green picked up the apprenticeship award for Health & Social Care.
The Children’s Care Learning & Development award was presented to Bolton’s Nabeela Kauser for a hardworking perseverance to her post at Hocus Pocus Nursery.
Bolton’s David Bickerstaffe, 21, picked up the apprenticeship award for Fabrication & Welding having completed his ONC in civil engineering and Level 3 Computer Aided Design.
Sarah, 26, a care worker from Radcliffe was awarded the Special Achievement prize for her role with United Response; given to an individual who has demonstrated considerable progress in gaining their qualifications.
The Mechanical Engineering apprenticeship award was presented to 22 year old Andrew Geroldi from Horwich for completing his Apprenticeship in Performing Engineering Operations and his Advanced Apprenticeship in Mechanical Maintenance, along with his HNC.
The winner of the Engineering Programme Led Apprenticeship Learner of the Year was 20 year old, Jamie Smalley from Hindley. Jamie, who is a machinist at Horizontal Boring, is currently working towards his Apprenticeship in Performing Engineering Operations.
The winner of the Engineering Academy Learner of the Year Award was 15 yr old Reece Perkins from Derby High School in Bury.
The winner of the Childcare Academy Learner of the Year Award was revealed as Andrew Miller from Radcliffe Riverside High School. Andrew, 17, is currently undertaking his Level 2 Technical Certificate in Childcare and Education.
The prestigious Adult Learner of the Year award was presented to Tracey Moore, a Care Assistant at Starmount Villa.
Bolton’s Nicola Simkins was awarded for her dedication to the Business Administration / ITQ Programme Led Apprenticeship.

Maria Holding, aged 36 from Leigh, received an award for her continual enthusiasm to her e-learning qualification.
All the winners received a £50 cheque from Alliance Learning and a personal award or bonus from their employers.
