The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games (Locog) has named Jean Tomlin as its director of HR.

Tomlin will oversee the entire recruitment process for Locog, the organisation responsible for staging and hosting the Olympic and Paralympic Games, including the recruitment of volunteers. She will report to chief executive Paul Deighton.

The organisation is expected to grow from 80 staff to 3,000 by 2012.

Deighton said Tomlin had a fundamental role to play. “This is a crucial position within the London 2012 team,” he said. “We need to attract and retain the best people for London 2012 to deliver the best Games ever, and Tomlin will make that happen.”

Tomlin, former group HR director at retailer Marks & Spencer, said she was “thrilled” by the appointment

“The London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games is the most exciting project around and I look forward to putting in place a world-class team across a range of specialities to deliver a spectacular London Games,” she said.

Tomlin has, most recently, been advising the BBC on its change management programme.
