Regulations governing employers’ obligations in regards to the national minimum wage change on 1 October 2010, as well as the rates to be paid.
As reported by Personnel Today, the age from which the principal rate becomes payable is amended from 22 to 21. This change happens on the day the main statutory rate increases by 2.2%.
In an impact assessment of the changes, the Government admitted that the cost to business, charities and voluntary bodies of moving 21-year-olds to the adult rate will be approximately £48 million.
