The
number of jobs in UK call centres has increased by more than 200 per cent over
the last four years.
Figures
released by the Office for National Statistics show that the number of call
centre jobs increased by 220 per cent between the winter of 1996/7 and the
summer of 2000.

The
number of people in more traditional roles such as counter clerks and
telephonists declined by more than 13 per cent over the same period.
