Jones, the CBI’s current director general, is set to become the first person to
serve more than one term as head of the employers’ organisation, after deciding
to stay in the role for an extra two years.
Jones
agreed to stay on as director general until 2006, after declining an invitation
to serve another full five-year term.
The
organisation had wanted Jones to serve another full term, but he decided to
continue for two years following an offer from the CBI president, Sir John
Egan.
Membership
of the CBI has increased by 50 per cent since the former lawyer succeeded Adair
Turner as director general.
