Companies need language skills for upturn

by Personnel Today 7 Oct 2009
by Personnel Today 7 Oct 2009

Organisations need to be developing language skills within their teams and hiring people with language abilities in order to help the UK out of the recession and emerge from the downturn with the edge over their competitors. That’s the message from job board multilingualvacancies.com.Recent research showed that the British economy loses out on billions of pounds worth of contracts per year because of the lack of language skills in its workforce. Recognising the importance of language ability in the workplace, multilingualvacancies.com is sponsoring the 2009 Language Careers Fair, to encourage companies to hire competent linguists and help boost the UK’s economy.

“Having even a little bit of linguistic ability on your team is important in today’s global marketplace” comments Miranda Reid, Director of multilingualvacancies.com, “but it’s becoming a skill that no company should be without if we want to get the economy going strong again and organisations want to give their business a boost. The Language Careers Fair is an event which will be a great way for employers to meet strong candidates who are keen to use their language skills at work.”

The Language Careers Fair will be an opportunity for employers to meet with thousands of multi lingual job seekers. It will take place within the Language Show, the UK’s biggest event for everyone who loves or works within languages, which runs from 30th October until 1st November 2009 at London’s Olympia. For more information about taking a stand, please contact Donna or Kyrie on 020 7288 6732.
