One in six workers has been drunk during working hours, and the problem is set to escalate as the World Cup approaches, according to research.
The Alcohol in the Workplace survey of 1,500 employees, commissioned by insurance company Royal & SunAlliance, showed that one-sixth of the UK workforce has been “under the influence of alcohol at work in the past six months.
It also revealed about two million employees have taken a day off because of a hangover in the past six months.

The “crisis” is set to get worse, Royal & SunAlliance predicts, as an estimated 2.9 million employees (10% of the UK workforce) take time off to watch the football.
However, about 20% of employers said they will show England matches in the office, and 12% said they would show all the World Cup matches.
