The
Engineering Employers’ Federation (EEF) is calling for an investigation into
the market for employers’ liability insurance.
The
EEF said the Office of Fair Trading should investigate the rise in the premiums
for the cover, which is required by law.
Martin
Temple, director-general at the EEF, said the premiums had grown by 400 per
cent and that switching insurers was too expensive.
He
said the problem was exacerbated by tough trading conditions and the inability
of manufacturers to pass on costs to the customer.
