Employment minister Jim Murphy to meet workers from Burton’s Foods to discuss 660 Moreton on The Wirral redundancies

Workers from Burton’s Foods will meet employment minister Jim Murphy later today to discuss a way forward to prevent the loss of 660 jobs at its plant at Moreton on The Wirral.

Union leaders from the T&G section of super-union Unite will meet the minister this evening to discuss ways to keep the plant open, following a review of the biscuit makers manufacturing operations in May.

Franny Joyce, T&G section of Unite regional industrial organiser, said: “Support is strong from the local community but there’s no doubt we are facing a tough battle.

“Meeting the minister is a significant part of our campaign. We’ll make sure he knows the importance of the plant to the area and see what he can do to assist us,” Joyce said.
