HR
staff need to become leaders
and not remain managers who are bogged down in process, according to leadership
expert Rene Carayol.
Carayol told Personnel Today that HR was not regarded as a high-fliers club, had
a lack of role models and was marketed very badly.
“You
need to be proud of who you are and attract people who are better than you,” he
said. “Leadership is about instinct. The right talent will not need procedures
and measures. Foster an environment of liberated chaos where people have the freedom
to make mistakes.”
Carayol will be speaking at the
People @ the Heart of Leadership conference organised by the Institute of
Leadership & Management in London
on 5-6 October 2004.
What
do you think? Are you tired of HR taking a pummelling by commentators or does
the profession need to sort itself out?
