…with Wright Solutions’ brand new MasterClasses!
The slowing UK economy is about to present the HR profession with its greatest challenges in 15 years.
With this in mind, leading HR recruitment and training specialists Wright Solutions have developed two brand new interactive half day MasterClass workshops specifically to guide HR executives through the downturn.
Jon Terry, Operations Director at Wright Solutions explained “following the prolonged period of growth, many HR executives will not have experienced the problems that can arise during a significant slowdown. However, with recession now looking likely, they could be shortly facing up to confrontational unions or works councils and the prospect of having to make redundancies. We have therefore developed two new MasterClasses to provide HR executives with the practical advice they need”.
‘The changing face of industrial relations’…
High profile strikes have already taken place over the last year. With businesses having to balance the need to reduce costs with the increasing employee demands over pay, this trend looks set to continue.
Entitled ‘The changing face of industrial relations: A new challenge?’, the first new MasterClass enables delegates to understand the factors affecting the employment market, identify signs of industrial unease and develop plans to conduct effective negotiations. The MasterClass was held recently and, following the overwhelming response received, will take place again later this year.
Terry continued “HR professionals who have not handled industrial disputes can find the process daunting. Executives attending this workshop will be shown how to develop strategies for the changing economic climate, how to strengthen their position during negotiations and defuse tension by improving communications. As a result, they will receive invaluable guidance on the best ways of developing solutions”.
‘How to approach downsizing’…
The current and expected economic climate may also increase the requirement for organisations to downsize. Entitled ‘If the worst comes to work. How to approach a downsizing’, Wright Solutions’ other new MasterClass is aimed at HR professionals who may be expecting to undertake a redundancy programme.
It will provide delegates with an understanding of the need to consult and how to conduct consultations. HR executives attending will learn how to avoid the pitfalls of redundancy, how to deal with those made redundant and the survivors, the requirements for notice and payment and how to develop plans for working with management colleagues during the redundancy process.
Terry added “This MasterClass will take away the fear factor. It provides guidance on how to develop a redundancy strategies that satisfy business needs and legal requirements, how to ensure the process is as smooth as possible, how to handle redundancy and engage with those employees remaining in the organisation afterwards”. The workshop will take place on 23rd October, again in Birmingham.

Both new workshops will be facilitated by Terry Rowland and Stephen Clapcott.
Terry previously held the position of European HR Director at Pilkington Automotive and is now a consultant and lecturer. Stephen is an experienced consultant and lectures at Birmingham, Coventry and Warwick Universities.
