Congratulations to Helen Scott for obtaining her post at Sodexho (Top job, Personnel Today, 28 February), but I haven’t a clue what she’s on about in what she hopes to achieve in her new role.
It read to me like a litany of the sort of management jargon that gets HR a bad name – aligned, proactive, business partner, add value, drive bottom-line profitability. All she needed was the addition of a ‘direction of travel’ coupled with a ‘road map’ and a touch of ‘low-hanging fruit’ thrown in for good measure and she would have had a full set.
No wonder some people question what exactly HR does. Please keep it simple, for both HR professionals and employees alike.
