Liverpool City Council has awarded a five-year extension of its outsourcing contract to its own joint venture with BT.
The joint venture, which is called Liverpool Direct, will continue to run the council’s call centre, revenues and benefits, HR and IT services until 2017. The outsourcing contract was originally signed in 2001 and came into force at the beginning of 2002.
Liverpool City Council has already cut the running cost of the outsourced services by £5m a year.

Council leader Warren Bradley said: “The joint venture between the council and BT has been one of the city’s success stories. It’s allowed us to improve our services faster and more dramatically, and placed us at the forefront of e-government.”
Liverpool Direct is currently rolling out a document management system to the council’s 450 social workers.
