Local government employers today presented short-term changes to the pension scheme to the trade unions representing their workers.
The proposals “were worse than those the unions threatened strike action over in March”, according to Unison, and require employees to pay extra contributions.

The unions, who represent two million local government workers, were unanimous in their view that if the government accepted the proposals, then strike action would be on the cards, Unison said.
Union officials are seeking urgent meetings with ministers next week at the Labour party conference.
