Mark Serwotka, head of Public and Commercial Services Union, claims government choices bred mistrust in the Civil Service

It is not enough to speak, but to speak true… The government’s target-driven political agenda and cost cutting have created an environment of mistrust in the Civil Service.

So says straight-talking Mark Serwotka (pictured below), general secretary of the Public and Commercial Services Union, emulating the Bard himself [the opening quote is from A Midsummer Night’s Dream].

The union leader told delegates at Personnel Today’s HR Directors Club breakfast briefing at London’s Globe Theatre last week that HR professionals were often “victims” of government changes. “Many of the problems we deal with are not caused by HR,” he said.

The Personnel Today HR Directors Club is sponsored by Arinso, GMAC Global Relocation Services, Hammonds and XpertHR.
