Defence contractor BAE Systems has announced the appointment of Jon Coverdale as HR director of its customer solutions and support and its Land Systems businesses. He will be responsible for developing and driving HR strategy across the two businesses. Coverdale was previously HR director for RO Defence.

Secretary of state for work and pensions, Alan Johnson, has announced the appointment of Daniel Carrigan to the Health & Safety Commission. Following an open appointment exercise, Carrigan, assistant general secretary of the Amicus union, has been appointed as commissioner representing the concerns of employees. His term will run for three years.

Service recognition company Cottrills has appointed Richard Lee to head its new incentive and motivation division. Lee has more than seven years of experience in developing award and incentive programmes, most recently at the Grass Roots Group. In his new role, he will be developing a range of incentive and motivation solutions for existing and new clients, including web-based options.

Vizards Wyeth solicitors has appointed Susan Jennings as an employment lawyer. She joins the growing team of employment specialists, led by Jonathan Simmons, which form part of the commercial group. Jennings brings seven years of experience to the team as the firm continues to expand its commercial practice.
