The Royal British Legion has developed an employee assistance programme (EAP) for its UK support staff.
The charity’s staff, who support more than 11 million people worldwide, can access helplines and have free counselling to help them with any personal or work-related issues, including the stress associated with their job. The service is provided by global EAP consultancy PPC Worldwide.
The EAP will allow support staff to consult a free and confidential helpline, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The service offers legal and financial advice, as well as counselling sessions for those who wish to talk directly to a professional counsellor.

Sharron Lewis James, head of HR at the Royal British Legion, said: “Our staff provide daily support to people on issues ranging from pensions and care homes to war-related illness. We often see enthusiastic employees become burnt out by the high pressure that support work brings.
“This programme gives our staff the opportunity to receive support themselves and is a proactive approach to employee well-being.”
