Strike action is set to hit Gatwick airport again this weekend, as the dispute between the T&G union and Servisair continues.
Another two-day strike will begin at midnight on Friday – the eighth in a long running dispute over changed working practices and the suspension of a senior shop steward.
Ian McCoulough, T&G regional industrial organiser, said there had been a telephone conversation over the weekend between senior Servisair manager and senior national officials at the T&G but there had been no real progress towards a settlement.
The origin of the dispute was over changed working practices that went back to February this year, according to McCoulough.
“The fact that it takes three managers to do the work of one baggage handler on strike days makes our point eloquently that the imposed new working practices put unreasonable pressure on our members,” he said.
