The Communication Workers Union has warned Royal Mail managers that they must focus on service quality now it has returned to profit.
The union, which represents 160,000 postal workers in the UK, says the company is showing “worrying signs” that management has forgotten it is Government-owned and a public service first and foremost.
General secretary Billy Hayes said: “What we now need to see is a management more committed to improving the quality of service – because, while some improvements have undoubtedly been made more, clearly more needs to be done, particularly to sort out problems that remain at the sharp end on delivery.

“Our members have been getting a lot of unfair criticism in the media of late, and it is time they received some recognition for the contribution they have made to turning the company around,” he said.
