The TUC Public Service Liaison Committee is meeting today to discuss potential industrial action over public sector pensions.
Last week the Government announced changes to civil servant pensions which will see final salary schemes replaced by a career average pension.
Representatives from the Public and Commercial Services union, Unison, T&G and other public sector unions will discuss the possibility of a united response in the New Year.
Dave Prentis, general secretary of Unison and chair of the committee said: “We will not sit back and allow [the Government] to tear our members’ pensions to shreds.
“There is no time to waste and we will start consulting our 850,000 members in local government about the possibility of industrial action next year.”
