Road users could be put at risk unless the Government
reconsiders legislation regulating drivers’ hours, the T&G union has
warned.
At the T & G’s
regional transport sector meeting in Leeds yesterday, members were strongly
critical of the Government’s decision to exempt self-employed and owner-drivers
from working time legislation.
"This is not conducive with a co-ordinated road safety
strategy and can only undermine safe driving practice," said Ronnie
Morrison, senior regional organiser at the T & G.
