Almost
1,000 employees have threatened the Big Food Group with legal action after it
closed its final salary pension scheme to existing members.
Staff
at the company have hired lawyers and claim the firm has breached trust and
confidence by ending the pension scheme for existing staff.
The
firm, formerly known as the Iceland Group, has hit back claiming it had no
choice and the move ensured the future of the business and its 30,000 strong
workforce.
Several
companies have recently closed final pensions and replaced them with less
costly schemes, but in most cases it is only new employees who have been
affected.
