We
know they’ve had a shocker, but now it’s official — Railtrack had the worst
press coverage of any company last year.
The
troubled company finished bottom of a table compiled by Presswatch, who monitor
media coverage in the national press and award companies points from plus-30 to
minus-30 depending on the positive or negative nature of each article.
The
bottom ten were, in order (most negative publicity first): Railtrack, Marconi,
BT, Equitable Life, M&S, Lloyds TSB, ITV, British Airways, Granada and
Enron.
The
top performers were: Tesco, Fidelity, Smile, Northern Rock, HBOS, Safeway,
Ryanair, IF, ABN Amro and BMW.
