How long
The CIPD Certificate in Personnel Practice a part time course offered over 26 weeks of attendance (1 day per week – ie Friday 9.30am to 4.30pm).

The course is run twice yearly with intakes in both January and September.

Entry qualifications
No formally stipulated academic qualifications are required.  However, it is essential to be in current employment, preferably relevant employment in a personnel/human resource management function.  In addition you need to be confident of having organisational support in order to contribute in class and to undertake assignments and in particular to undertake the project which is work-based.

Modules
The course follows the CIPD Professional Standards in respect of the Certificate in Personnel Practice syllabus.  You will study the following five units:

  • Project and Learning Portfolio

  • Human Resource Plans and Organisational Context

  • Recruitment and Selection

  • Training and Development

  • Performance Management and Employee Relations.

The units covered on the course are designed to enable you to develop and update a range of skills and knowledge required in the practice of personnel/human resource management and to provide you with an understanding and appreciation of the role and range of activities undertaken by personnel/human resource management professionals.

There are no exams as the emphasis is upon practical coursework and continuous assessment.

Career opportunities
Success on the course enhances your employability as this certificate is recognised by employers and gives Associate Membership of the professional body, the CIPD.

The qualification allows you to progress in your chosen career in personnel/human resource management and related disciplines and thereby is directly able to improve your employability for the future.  For those wishing to progress to the CIPD degree level qualification, but who do not meet the standard LSBU entry requirements to apply for the MSc HR in their own right, there is a non-standard entry route which can be accessed by CPP students awarded a merit or above
