IOSH update: Events to spark debate

by Personnel Today 17 Aug 2006
by Personnel Today 17 Aug 2006

IOSH is running two events for construction and public services health and safety practitioners in the next month.

InterConstruct 06 takes place at the Burlington Hotel, Dublin, on 23-24 August. The event has speakers from across the world, and has case studies on major construction projects, including Wembley national stadium, Heathrow T5 and the Hong Kong Sky Rail.

Keynote speakers include Tony Killeen, the Irish minister for labour affairs; Tom Beegan, chief executive of the Irish Health and Safety Authority; and Stephen Williams, chief inspector of construction at the Health and Safety Executive.

International speakers include Neville Betts, from the Safety Institute of Australia, who will talk about changing cultures; Tim Fisher, director of practices and standards at the American Society of Safety Engineers, talking about the impact of multi-language work on construction and demolition projects; and Patrick Godelie, general manager at Belgian firm VEKMO, highlighting how to ‘get the right people for the right job’.

The National Safety Symposium takes place at Leicester’s Holiday Inn from 4-5 September. The symposium, will appeal to a much wider audience than its traditional base of practitioners in public services.

Topics of interest to OH include:

  • Communicating the health and safety message

  • Communication and evacuation

  • Integrating migrant workers

  • Attendance and rehabilitation

  • Building health into the workplace.
