Fewer than one in five temporary workers are given the opportunity by their employers to learn new skills.
According to research by office staff recruitment consultancy Angela Mortimer, 17% of respondents to a survey of temporary staff said they were learning new skills at work. Yet 65% of them said they were motivated by the chance to learn new skills and gain work experience.

The same percentage said they are as or more skilled than their permanent colleagues. The research was based on questionnaires completed by 100 temps in May.
Meanwhile, another Angela Mortimer survey, this time of 156 college leavers who attended a recruitment fair, found 75% said learning new skills was their top priority when looking for their first jobs. Some 63% said they were better skilled than graduates and more likely to find a job.
