More than 1,000 members of staff at Whipps Cross University Hospital in London have been asked for their ideas about how to save money at the trust.
Teams of senior managers asked for opinions from a range of employees as part of its Every Penny Counts project, reports Health Service Journal.
The trust will now be considering switching off lights and computers at night, adopting green energy sources like solar panels, and double-sided photocopying.
The staff member with the best idea will be rewarded with £1,000 to spend on equipment for their department.
Chief executive Lucy Moore said the project was about getting staff at every level of the organisation to take ownership of its money.
