HR qualifications

MBA, School of Management, University of Surrey

by Personnel Today 26 Oct 2004
by Personnel Today 26 Oct 2004

How long?
The MBA is widely recognised as the most appropriate educational qualification for future senior managers and executives. In keeping with the ethos of the University, the School of Management MBA is both educationally sound and directly relevant to those areas of industry, commerce, the professions and public service which MBA graduates tend to enter.  The MBA course can be studied full-time or intensively within one academic year, or via Distance Learning with one of our centres around the world.

Entry requirements
Applicants will generally need a first degree or equivalent and at least three years’ professional work experience. Non-graduates with at least six years’ professional work experience may be admitted through the Open Access route. In addition, most applicants for whom English is not their first language will be required to have taken an English test and achieved a score of IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL equivalent.

Modules
The overall objective of the SoM MBA is to develop analytical abilities using concepts derived from a wide range of academic disciplines, directed toward business problem-solving in an international environment.  Students need to complete six core modules which include Marketing, financial Management and Management of Human Resources. They also select two focus modules from a choice of nine, together with the completion of a dissertation.

Career opportunities
Students gain excellent employment prospects after graduation, with more than 98% of management studies graduates being employed six month after leaving university.
