An accountant allegedly nicknamed “Bin” by work colleagues, after Osama Bin Laden, is facing a £100,000 legal bill after losing a race claim, the Telegraph has reported.
Vijyante Bashir claimed to have found the nickname on a whiteboard outside her office after the 9/11 terrorist attacks in New York.
The 44-year-old, a former directorate accountant for Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said being called Bin left her feeling “degraded”.
Known as Bindi to her friends, she claimed her name had been changed to Bin up to four times day on the board outside her office.

She also alleged a work colleague used to leave the office windows open and turn off the radiators because he said: “Asians always tend to get colder”.
In his findings, employment judge Richard Little said it was difficult to make a finding of fact on the ‘Bin’ issue but attached no blame to bosses over allegations they failed to investigate.
