Chartis Insurance UK Limited has announced that natural catastrophe insurance will be included in the Travel cover under all Lifeline Plus Group Personal Accident and Travel policies from January 1 2011.
If a volcano erupts and there’s a repeat of the ash cloud, or there’s another natural catastrophe like a flood, tsunami, earthquake or hurricane, Chartis will pay up to £10,000 for additional travel and accommodation costs incurred because of delays, alterations or cancellations to an individual‘s business trip.
Following the unprecedented travel disruption caused by the ash cloud from the Icelandic volcano earlier this year, the new cover has been designed to minimise the stress to travellers caused by the impact of natural catastrophes on business trips, and to help get travellers home and back to work quicker.

“By adding this cover to our Lifeline Plus policy, employers can be sure they are providing the best possible support to their employees when they travel on business. It’s all about minimising the negative impact associated with delays and cancellations if there’s another ash cloud, or a flood or earthquake for example,” says Paul Dobinson, Head of Commercial Underwriting, Accident and Health at Chartis.
