How positive to see that the launch of the government’s campaign to encourage women to become firefighters warranted being covered
on the front page of your magazine (Personnel Today, 23 May).
How disappointing, however, to see that you decided to choose a picture of the hapless, but endearingly sexy, Bridget Jones attempting to descend a fire station pole to accompany it.

Surely a picture of real-life, capable, committed and successful firefighters – who also happened to be female – would have been a much fairer visual companion to the text, rather than the jokey image of Bridget, which totally undermines the perception of women in the service.
