An investigation has been launched by New Scotland Yard
after eight gay police officers were sent threatening letters in the post.
A spokesman for the force said that the Directorate of Professional
Standards (formerly the Complaints Investigation Bureau) was investigating
after a number of malicious letters were sent to officers at the West End
Central Police Station.
A statement issued by New Scotland Yard said, “The letters –
sent to eight male officers at the station – are threatening and homophobic in
nature.
“This matter is being taken extremely seriously and a DPS
investigation was immediately launched on Tuesday – the day the letters were
received.”
Deputy assistant commissioner Tarique Ghaffur, borough
commander for Westminster, said, “The MPS regards abuse or intolerance of any
minority as totally unacceptable and everything possible will be done to find
the person or people responsible.”
