Police
forces around the country are being given a total £2.5m by the Government to
help recruit more special constables.
The
Government wants to find another 3,000 volunteer officers to provide visible
policing and engage with the local community.
All
43 police forces will receive funding of up to £70,000 to recruit new special
constables and trainers to ensure they are given the appropriate skills.
Forces
are expected to recruit at least 75 additional officers over the next three
years bringing the total number of specials to around 14,000 by 2007.
