Find out how your peers chose their path into HR in XpertHR's 2017 careers survey

XpertHR is conducting a survey on HR careers, looking at how UK HR professionals begin, manage and progress their careers in HR.

The survey will look in detail at how and why HR professionals chose HR as a career, their CIPD qualifications and membership levels, and the barriers they have faced in their careers to date.

Take part in this XpertHR Benchmarking research to receive the latest data on how your own experience in the profession compares against that of other HR professionals.

Completing this confidential survey will entitle you to a complimentary copy of the data report once it is available and a free copy of the 2017 XpertHR HR roles and responsibilities survey report, emailed to you on completion of the survey.

In addition, all respondents whose data can be used in XpertHR survey analyses will be entered into a draw for the chance to win one of four £250 prizes.

The questionnaire is open until 24 July 2017. The closing date for the prize draw is 31 December 2017, with the draw set to take place in week commencing 5 January 2018.

Please note that the prize is 4 x £250 and the winners will be notified by email during the week of 15 January 2018.

XpertHR’s previous research into HR careers, conducted in 2014, found that:

  • Nearly half (48.5%) of UK HR professionals said their choice of HR as a career was made “by chance”, while more than one-third (36.8%) joined HR as they “wanted to work with people”.
  • More than four-fifths (83.4%) were CIPD members, while 82.2% held CIPD qualifications.
  • Nearly three-quarters (72.6%) agreed or strongly agreed with the proposition that “CIPD qualifications are vital for advancement in the HR profession”.
  • Three-fifths (58.7%) said they would choose HR again, if they had the option to start their career over.

I'm also interested in the latest information and data on all aspects of the work of HR and related disciplines (whether to do with employment or economics) around the world – and how social media enable HR information and debate to spread and evolve across geographic boundaries.
