I enjoyed last week’s article about the waiting times for the Metropolitan Police (Personnel Today, 5 April).
I am an applicant myself. I had all my tests in the summer of 2003, and was offered a place in the force in September 2003.
I still haven’t been given a start date for the Hendon training, but have now been advised that it is likely to be in 2006.
This is not a problem in itself – although it is far from ideal. It’s just a shame that applicants are not made aware that such a long wait is likely to be on the cards. I was originally told it would be six months.
