The national training organisation for the IT industry has
launched a guide to successful recruitment in a sector which is facing dire
shortages of skilled staff.
The e-Skills NTO has worked with employers like Logica,
Barclays, Nortel Networks, Securicor Information Systems and IBM to develop 12
best practice tips.
These are designed to give employers access to support and
advice about practical recruitment, retention and training practices to help
them employ staff from non-traditional groups.
The e-skills NTO 12 top tips are:
*Sign up to the e-skills Employers’ Charter
* Realise the potential of your existing workforce
* Think strategically
* Embrace diversity
* Target under-utilised recruitment pools
* Promote yourself to the next generation
* Offer work experience
* Use your website as a recruitment tool
* Part on good terms with ex-employees
* Take advantage of remote working
* Re-locate
* Don’t struggle alone
HR Director at The Sage Group Karen Geary said, “Everyone
has to deal with IT staff moving on, for whatever reason, but it can be useful
to make sure that you part on good terms. If they speak highly of you, your
image will be enhanced and their new colleagues are more likely to join you.”
