Sports car manufacturer TVR is the latest car maker to announce the closure of a UK plant, although it is unclear whether operations will be relocated within the UK.
Two hundred and sixty skilled car manufacturing jobs will go in six months as the Russian-owned firm closes its Blackpool factory.
The T&G union said that managers would give more details later this week about where the company would relocate to and what it would make.
Andy Robertson, T&G regional industrial organiser, said the workforce had been stunned by the announcement.
“The company told us it intended to keep a presence in the UK but did not say where it would be or if manufacturing was going to be transferred there,” he said.
